Welcome to Goatstown Educate Together National School
We are a new primary school for the Goatstown/DunLaoghaire Rathdown area that opened for the first time in September 2019 taking in Junior Infants only. We will expand year on year up to 6th Class.
September in Second Class!
After our summer break, it was great to get back to class with plenty of new faces in our class! All of our second class boys and girls have been working incredibly hard both on their academics and on their own personal holistic development. There is a great sense of community and an even stronger sense of belonging in our class and all of our students have been working as part of a team to create a very positive classroom atmosphere.
As the oldest class on the corridor this year, 2nd Class have decided to act as ‘Lantern Leaders’ to light the way for other classes in behaviour, positive attitude and by showing our RP values. We identified a wide variety of things we could do to be positive ‘Lantern Leaders’, and we have seen regular examples of this behaviour in all areas of the school day!
We have been exploring our learning together in a variety of different ways. Making the most of the dry weather we combined our SESE, English and Art lessons and took a small adventure outside to explore leaves, horse chestnuts, trees and let our imaginations wander.
Our new Math curriculum has given us the opportunity to develop our understanding by exploring with our new resources both independently and with classmates- this has really helped students to challenge themselves with our lessons by bringing them to life!
2nd Class have incredible energy levels so it is no surprise that PE is often a highlight of the week. With our two sessions per week, students have been developing our Hockey Skills, building on our warm ups and passing skills from our Cricket lessons last year. Hopefully during October we will get the opportunity to put these new skills to the test with a mini hockey blitz!
Two of our 2nd Class students were given RP certificates for showing one of our RP Values this month; Fairness and Empathy!!
Finally, as always, Circle Time, Learn Together and Mindfulness play a core role in our daily activities. Whether it is taking time to; share our news, celebrate student achievements outside of school, meditating or showing the other members of our school community care and kindness.
Looking forward to another fantastic month in October!!
